UEFA Cup Final

‘The World Game’- as it is so rightly called, is probably the only sport that is loved and appreciated all over the world with more or less the same degree of enthusiasm. Doesn’t matter whether your team is playing in the event or not, be it a competition between countries or clubs, most of us can find a lot of pleasure just watching the experts exhibiting their talents and providing exciting games for the mass public. UEFA Cup is one such event that does not necessarily involve the countries where people quite fanatically follow the competition. This year the excitement and thrill will reach its pinnacle on the 16th May, when the two Spanish clubs, Sevilla and Espanyol, will fight for glory at Hampden Park, Glasgow.UEFA Cup brings together the best clubs from all over Europe and provides many thrilling moments. This year Sevilla is ready to put its name in the history books by successfully defending its title, a feat last achieved by Real Madrid in 1986.
The Two Finalists
·
Sevilla FC
The current holders of UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup, Sevilla is the oldest club from
Seville and was established in 1905. The club was the first Andalusian club to play in the European Cup. It supports one of the most renowned football academies of Spain, which has produced many talented players on the international arena. Apart from that, they have established a school of sports psychologists and have their own radio station and TV channel as well. Their home ground is named after the former club president Ramon Sanchez Pizuan, and has a capacity of 45,000.
·
RCD Espanyol de Barcelona
It is said that Espanyol has the disadvantage of being living in the shadows of FC Barcelona, but still they are
Spain’s 6th most successful club. The team was founded in 1900, and was the first to be founded by Spanish fans rather than by foreigners. It has been a long road to the UEFA Cup final this year but they have successfully over powered some mighty opponents and for the sake of football fanatics will give Sevilla a run for their money.

RCD Espanyol has the honor of being granted patronage by the Spanish royal crown since 1931, which entitles them to use the word ‘Real’ in their name.

Staying in the city

For the people who do really want to enjoy the thrill and excitement of the game first hand, a nice place to stay is Langs Hotel Glasgow. Drumming Feast of St John

The month of June is full of the sounds of African drums in the Venezuelan Caracas region. The Drumming Feast of St. John the Baptist is celebrated with wild exuberance and enthusiasm by the pueblos in the whole region. The festival is spread out to numerous towns, like Guarenas, Santa Lucia, Guatire and Barlovento. Due to the colonial history and cultural diversity of the region the festival has African, Pagan and Catholic influences and is aimed at acquiring purification and honouring John the Baptist.During the colonial times, the Spanish assigned various saints to the festivals of the pueblos so they would coincide with the Roman Catholic Festivals.

The Celeb
rations
The drumming and the festive atmosphere prevails during the whole month of June, but the actual festival starts on 23rd with the beating of the drums through out the night all through the town and in the house where the image of Saint John is kept, decorated with wreaths of flowers. On 24th, there is a Mass in honour of the Saint, followed by a Parade through the streets. The festivities go on through the night with beautiful, rhythmic drumming and people getting into trance like states. It is an experience in itself to see the people in such great rhythm and harmony with the music.

The dance of the ‘tambores’- a type of drum, is definitely the most erotic performance of the feast. A woman enters a circle of people and shakes her body wildly to the beat. Enters the man and tries to allure her with his charms, but as soon as he tries to get close to her, she runs away. After a while another man enters the ring, pushes the failed suitor away, and tries his luck.

What ever town you may be in, and whichever drum might be playing, the chanters and the music are always in perfect harmony and the rhythm simply sweeps you off the ground and takes you into a beautiful state of trance.

Jerez Horse Fair

Jerez de la Frontera is a shinning jewel in Spain’s crown. Famous for its sherry as well as Feria del Caballo, it is a place to savour. The annual Horse Fair held in Jerez is probably the most attractive event in the whole of Europe at this time of the year.

History

Held from 6th to 13th of May, the Jerez Horse Fair has a rich and interesting history. Back in the 13th century King Alfonzo X, after capturing Jerez from the Moors, granted the town two annual festivals to be held in April and September. Since then, the fair that started as a cattle market has been attracting large crowds. In 1868 a Livestock Show was added to the fair. The current venue of Gonzalez Hontoria Park was inaugurated in 1902 as the main fair ground. With a reputation of breeding quality horses since ancient times, it is no surprise that the Mayor of the town, in 1955, added a horse week to the April festival.

Featured Events

The once cattle market, now features Livestock and Agricultural Machinery exhibition, bull fighting and the fabulous horse fair itself. The town draws record numbers of crowds during this time of the year and they are definitely treated to the best equestrian shows and competitions, topped off with spectacular bull fighting on horseback, breathtaking flamenco and tantalizing sherry.

During the festival the town is throbbing and truly abuzz. Visitors from all around the world come to witness the amazing feats of the Andalusian thoroughbreds and Spanish purebreds. The fair features show-jumping and vaulting, endurance trials, carriage races as well as cowboy and classical dressage; where every rider has to perform a set routine and is judged on the accuracy and graceful movements. All in all, it is a treat for every equine aficionado. The major highlight of the fair is the performance of the local equestrian school, Real Escuela de Arte Ecuestre, featuring beautifully choreographed routines. Also the spectacle of the 1500 participating horse riders along with the beautiful carriages, passing through the streets en route to the Gonzalez Hontoria Park is a treat to watch. Of course, a Spanish outing would not be complete without a glass of sherry and dancing to the beats of flamenco. You will find ample places to your heart’s satisfaction that will grant you these pleasures.

Hotels in Jerez

Crowds of equine enthusiasts start gathering in the town weeks before the fair starts, so getting in early would be the way to go. There are hotels and accommodations on offer that would suit the people on a budget, as well as those who are ready to indulge themselves. Most of the hotels are very conveniently located in the centre of the city. A few good places to stay are:
- Villa de Jerez Hotel Jerez de la Frontera, located near the airport and in the centre of the city, has comfortable rooms and a great restaurant. The added facilities of a gymnasium and pool, as well as the beautifully kept gardens will make the stay a pleasure in itself.
- Prestige Palmera Plaza Hotel Jerez is located next to the wine museum, the clock and horse carriage museum. It is at 10 minutes drive from Jerez airport and about 40 minutes from Seville. The beautiful building is complemented with classy furnishings and facilities like pool and gym, adds to the lure of the place.

Coming to this beautiful town to enjoy the Annual Jerez Horse Fair will be the ultimate vacation for equine enthusiasts and a great opportunity to soak up the beauty of the land and its culture.

15 things to do when stuck bored in a hotel

1. Bring out the inner child in you, knock on different doors and run away.

2. Pretend to be room service and tell the hotel room occupants, "Judging from your order you wanted something hot and delicious. Come and feast. (while pointing to yourself)".

3. Stage a Borat like controversy by engaging in a nude wrestling fight with a willing friend after bursting in a packed hotel conference room.

4. Sing "Don't cry for me Argentina" from your hotel room balcony.

5. Use the room service trolley as a vehicle and race with a fellow friend down the hallways.

6. Grab the bedsheets and attempt a world-record breaking bungee jump from the balcony of your hotel room.

7. Under the guise of a hotel chef, burst in a crowded dining room area halfway throughout people's meals and scream for everyone to stop eating as the food has been poisoned. Watch mayhem ensue.

8. Order room service incessantly and insist each time that they take it back as the quality displeases you.

9. Use the laundry chute as a slippery dip. Enhance the ride by pouring water down the chute for a more slippery experience!

10. Pretend to be a new guest checking in. And when queried by administration under what name you're registered in, smoothly say, "Bond, James Bond" and roll dive through the nearby glass window.

11. Scare away other guests and have the pool all to yourself by dropping Mountain Dew in the water and swimming enjoyably in your own "filth".

12. Sneak in the next door balcony while geared up in a full Spiderman outfit and assume typical "Spiderman-glued-to-window" pose on their glass balcony door. Sing the "Spiderman, Spiderman" theme song whilst doing so.

13. If the hotel has gym facilities, take advantage of them and make obscene, loud noises while lifting weights or rowing the gym canoe. Feel the passion and close your eyes throughout all this.

14. If you're a girl with long hair, time it so that when a guest leaves their room, pretend to be the ghost woman from "The Ring" or "The Grudge" and start walking creepily down the hallway with your hair covering your entire face as they walk towards you.

15. Pretend to be the bathroom attendant and sensually massage a guest whilst doing their business. Ask for a tip afterwards.

There's a whole list of last minute hotels for you to choose from! Check RatesToGo now.
